According to data from the Ministry of Health released on Saturday (23), the total number of deaths in Brazil reached 22,013. The daily record is from last Thursday (21), when the country registered 1,188 new deaths.
According to Johns Hopkins University (USA), Brazil remains the second country with the most cases of the disease, with a total of 347 thousand cases. It is second only to the United States, which has 1.6 million cases and 96 thousand deaths in total.
Russia is the third most affected country with 335,000 cases and only 3,388 deaths, which generates internal and external mistrust.
The top five countries with the most deaths are the USA (96,000), the United Kingdom (36,000), Italy (32,000), Spain and France (28,000). Brazil comes next.
In Brazil, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Ceará, Pernambuco and Pará concentrate more than half of the total deaths due to the disease.
On Friday (22), the executive director of WHO (World Health Organization), Michael Ryan, said that Latin America is the new epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic and Brazil is the most worrying country.
Ryan said that although the largest number of cases has been recorded in São Paulo, the most serious situation is that of Amazonas, “with a very high rate,” he said. The state has the highest number of cases in relation to the population: 490 infected people per 100 thousand inhabitants.
Estimates also released this Friday by Imperial College indicate that the transmission of the disease continues to accelerate in Brazil. The contagion rate (Rt), which indicates to how many people on average each infected person transmits the coronavirus, was calculated to be 1.3 – when it is above 1, the transmission is out of control.
