“This morning, for example, Band’s people wanted money. The point is this: will or will you not give money to Bandeirantes? Ah, won’t you give money to Bandeirantes? I spent half an hour getting beaten, but I replied, ”said Pedro, at the meeting held on April 22, between Bolsonaro, his ministerial team and presidents of the Central Bank, BNDES, Banco do Brasil and CF.
Datena criticized the speech and said the president of the institution would have to prove the charges or be fired.
“Here comes the guy (Pedro Guimarães) at a ministerial meeting with the President of the Republic and says‘ the people at Band want money ’. If you gave money to someone here at Band, Pedro, you indicate to whom you gave it, that surely that person will be fired, if it wasn’t a nice thing, if it wasn’t technical media. And the way you put it has dubious interpretation. Or you prevaricated and Bolsonaro should send you away today. ”
Minister Celso de Mello, of the Supreme Federal Court, decided to overturn the secrecy of the meeting, cited by former Minister Sergio Moro as proof that President Jair Bolsonaro would have tried to interfere with the Federal Police.
Upset about the content of the video and the explicit offenses against the media, the presenter also said that he prefers not to interview the President of the Republic anymore.
“After such an attitude, I would like the President of the Republic to give an interview to whomever he wanted. With all the respect I have for him and his position, I allow myself never to interview him again ”.
Band and Caixa released notes
Band also released a note during Jornal da Band. According to the company, the phrase said by the president of Caixa “sounds frivolous and irresponsible”.
“In the video of the ministerial meeting, released by the STF, the president of Caixa Econômica, Pedro Guimarães, appears, saying that Band‘ is asking me for money ’. This phrase sounds frivolous and irresponsible and has to be explained by this gentleman. Band is proud to operate smoothly in its commercial area and does not allow any of its employees to leave the technical and strict line. We reject the slanderous insinuation that that phrase contains. ”
Also in a note, the president of Caixa said that he had no intention of “suggesting the practice of any irregular or illicit conduct”.
“During the meeting, I was under strong emotion. Everyone knows the moment we are going through at CAIXA, especially to fulfill the herculean task of bringing emergency aid to more than 50 million Brazilians (sic). At no time did I intend to disgrace people or institutions, let alone suggest the practice of any irregular or illicit conduct ”.
