The government changed the commands of the Federal Highway Police (PRF) and the National Penitentiary Department (Depen).
Directors-general Adriano Marcos Furtado, from PRF, and Fabiano Bordignon from Depen, were exonerated. Eduardo Aggio de Sá was appointed, for the position of director general of PRF, and Tânia Maria Matos Ferreira Fogaça, for the position of director general of Depen.
The exchange was recorded in the edition of the “Diário Oficial da União”, published in the early hours of Friday (22), signed by the Minister of the Civil House, Walter Braga Netto.
On May 14, the Ministry of Justice anticipated that Federal Police (PF) delegate Tânia Fogaça would assume the leadership of the National Penitentiary Department (Depen), an agency linked to the ministry.
Tânia Fogaça was superintendent of the PF in Rio Grande do Norte.
Fabiano Bordignon had taken up the post at the invitation of former Minister of Justice Sergio Moro, who resigned on April 24.
Depen is responsible for the Federal Penitentiary System. According to the agency’s website, it is up to the department to isolate the leaders of organized crime and to comply with the Penal Execution Law and custody of:
- convicted and provisional prisoners subject to a differentiated disciplinary regime;
- leaders of criminal organizations;
- prisoners responsible for the repeated practice of violent crimes;
- prisoners responsible for flight or serious indiscipline in the home prison system;
- highly dangerous prisoners who may compromise public order and security;
- defendant collaborating prisoners or whistleblowers.
According to the Ministry of Justice, the new head of Depen has a law degree from Centro Universitário Fieo and a postgraduate degree in constitutional law from the University of Southern Santa Catarina.
The ministry also reported that she served as the operational coordinator of the 2014 World Cup International Police Cooperation Center and was part of the Working Group that devised the Federal Police Electronic Police Inquiry (ePol).
