Higuan cites goal against Corinthians in Libertadores 2006 as a special moment in his career


Currently one of the great names of Juventus, Higuaín faced Corinthians on two occasions, while still defending River Plate, in 2006. At that time, the athlete scored a goal that was remembered as a special moment in his career.

In search of the 2006 Copa Libertadores title, Corinthians was stopped by River Plate, when they ended up losing 3-1 in the return game, at Pacaembu, after losing 3-2 in the first duel. On that occasion, the Argentine team’s second and third goals were scored by Higuaín.

The athlete’s first goal, the team’s second in the game, marked the team’s turn and growth in the match. The goal was remembered by Higuaín as a special moment in his career and in his relationship with Marcelo Gallardo, former teammate and current River coach.

“Marcelo played a lot. My image that is always marked with him is that pass against Corinthians. He already knew I was coming from behind and made the pass before he saw me, it shows his intention. After that year, Corinthians returned to dispute the Libertadores in 2010 and 2011, but also without success. On occasions, the team was eliminated in the round of 16 by Flamengo and before the group stage by Tolima, respectively. Then, in 2012, the team won the tournament unbeaten.
