Karachi hospitals receive at least 56 bodies from the plane crash site


Karachi hospitals received 56 bodies from the spot where a commercial jet crashed over a residential area as it approached the airport in Pakistan’s largest city, hospital officials said on Friday.

Seemin Jamali, head of the Jinnah Graduate Medical Center, said the hospital had received 37 bodies. Another 19 were at the Civil Hospital, a hospital official told Reuters.

The provincial health department’s media coordinator, Meeran Yousaf, confirmed by telephone to Reuters that there were at least 56 confirmed dead and 2 survivors.

A Pakistan International Airlines Airbus plane, with 99 people on board, crashed into residential buildings on Friday afternoon as it approached the airport.
