“The rescue of the crew member, of Polish nationality, was carried out using the semi-rigid sea rescue ‘Maria da Esperança’, and the landing was authorized by the Municipal Health Authority, with the indication that it should be treated as a suspicion of the covid-19” , read in a statement from the National Maritime Authority.

The Bahamas-flagged merchant vessel was south of the port of Ponta Delgada and the crew “needed medical assistance.”

The rescue operation involved “three elements from the Ponta Delgada lifeguard station” and the woman “was transported by the Ponta Delgada Volunteer Firefighters to the Hospital do Divino Espírito Santo”.
